The very community we live is an ecosystem in itself where it provides natural services not only to humans but to all species essential to survival, quality of life and health.

To give you an example, forests are removing pollutants and carbon dioxide present in the air which we then breathe. Not only that, there are other things that it can do as well such as the following:

  • Limiting the formation of ground-level ozone which is a kind of pollutant that is capable of causing lung and cardiovascular problems to get worse
  • Wetlands storing storm water, filtering and making it harmless
  • Recharging aquifers in which majority of drinking water is sourced from
  • Dune systems on the beaches are forming natural barriers against storm waves while also providing important habitat as well as travel ways among wildlife

There are numerous ways on how we can achieve sustainability to our environment. At the end of the day, we have our own habits and by just doing minute changes in our behavior can help a lot in making it happen. It might take some time to get used to, but it works.
