Candle Making

I've been in the mood to make candles. And I wanted to put to use some of the blue mason jars {see previous post}

Michaels has 4lb bags of soy wax for something like $19.99 {I think, don't quote me} but I used a 40% off coupon to get it cheaper.

I added lavender and rosemary oils to scent them.

I also used some vintage glassware for some of them.

{Still haven't trimmed the wicks, and it's night so the lighting is not fantastic}

But I had a lot of fun making these and still have a ton of soy wax left.

There's a Line Somewhere

I am sure of it. There is a line somewhere when it comes to collecting and it is oh so easy to just cross right on over past the point of collecting and go right into "hoarding".

I don't even use these! They just sit there and collect dust. But every time I see one I snatch it up because they are pretty.

So I've gone through and separated the lids from the lidless and the lidless are going into the yard sale, perhaps for someone else who ~~hoards~~ collects to add to their collection.

And speaking of the yard sale, boy oh boy am I SCARED! I feel like I have ten million things left to do to prepare for it. But I can't wait to unload some stuff and make some money so I can go out and ~~hoard~~ buy some new things that I have had my eye on.

No Pretty Pictures...Just Real Life

I don't have any pretty pictures to show today. I WISH I did.

Some of you might have heard the story about how my ex husband lived in my guest room downstairs and when he finally moved out I was SO excited to finally be able to turn it into a craft room.

Wellllllll things happen.....

He was down on his luck and ended up evicted from his apartment. So I let him move back in to the guest room.

Which left me with no where to put all of this stuff! I moved my girls both into one room together and just piled my things into what was my youngest daughters room.

Then there it sat.....for four months!!

Today I finally felt energetic enough to tackle the room of doom as I am so affectionately calling it now. {Tee hee}

After two runs out to the store for plastic bins {and accidentally getting the wrong sized lids for 2 of them}, and several hours of trying to organize this stuff into the bins for safe keeping in a closet......

THIS is where I am at!

The room STILL looks like this.

And I've only got this much packed into bins.

On the bright side....I am so tired of trying to organize, so I am just throwing tons of craft things in giant clear plastic bags and stapling them shut to go in the yard sale, for one set price.

Some day.........some day maybe I will have these rooms completed and my youngest can have her room back and I will be able to share pretty "finished" room photos!!

Heaven...I'm in Heaven {Sings}

Not going to lie.....I LOVE sweets.

I mean, really, I have a major sweet tooth.

Recently I learned that there is a new(ish) bakery about 2 minutes from my house called The Confectioneiress.

So I "liked" them on Facebook

and I have been seeing their updates for about a month now and drooling every time.

Today I had enough of the drooling and just had to go find out if their cupcakes are as good as they look.

Right now I am trying to type while munching on a Raspberry Cupcake....

Jackpot!!

Oh my, they are BETTER than they look!

I brought home the Chocolate Mousse Cupcakes for the kids. They devoured them in 2 seconds flat.

If you live in Zionsville, near Zionsville, or are ever up this way for any reason you have to {Seriously, HAVE TO} stop in there for a tempting treat!

Not only that but the place is decorated soooo pretty. It's a visual treat too. So clean and simple but elegant.

I'm off to enjoy another tasty treat.

Yard Sale Info and More!

I finally have set a date for the yard sale. I've been cleaning, and cleaning, and cleaning, and...well...more cleaning!

I thought I was going to be able to have it sooner, but I had WAY more stuff hiding around here than what I had thought and I still need a couple more weeks to price and organize things.

The good news is, this is going to be a massive sale!

Weather providing {What? I can hope can't I?} it will be outdoors. But being early March it will probably be cold and yucky so it will have to be indoors.

Expect the usual, TONS of vintage and antiques, decor and furniture. I've also got a bunch of kids decor and clothing. And a decent mix of crafted items and supplies.

Rarely Seen Boys Room

My sons room is rarely seen, mainly because it is rarely clean! But also because there are a few things that need to be done in there still to make it "finished".

We will be keeping the pirate/ocean theme...for now.

But I really want to get around to adding more to his bed that we made. It needs a flag and some more detail.

I think this is the cleanest it has EVER been!

Will share more photos once I get some of the little details finished up!

{Sorry about the quality, it's a dark and dreary day here today. The good news is that it was the perfect day to get his room clean!}

I am spending the week going room by room just cleaning and clearing things out for the big indoor yard sale.

Here We Go...Update Time

So I do believe I owe it to everyone to explain where I have been....

It has been a REALLY rough few months for me, so without going into too much detail, all of the stress has caused several health issues and depression which I am trying to bounce back from.

Two more of my pretty girls were snagged by coyotes which has broken my heart.

I have started back on a few projects slowly but surely, I am trying to get back to my healthy self with my peaceful mind.

My ex husband moved back into the craft room which means it has gone back to being a guest room. So all of my crafting things have been shoved to a tight little corner where I can't get to most of it.

*Sad face*

I am currently working on both of my daughters rooms.

This is about as far as I have gotten and taken photos of thus far. I promise a big reveal hopefully some time soon!!

I had plans to create my own magazine, but once everything started taking it's toll on me I just couldn't get the energy up to put my all into it that I felt it deserved. So for now I am letting that go, but I do hope to get back to it at some point. I still feel that there are so many of you that do so much and do it so well that you deserve to be featured in a magazine! ♥

We had snow dumped on us this morning...

Almost everything {up until today} that I have been working on for Christmas has been white.

But I love love pink so I had to find a way to incorporate some in here and there.

These boxes are a bit time consuming to make but turned out so pretty! I used white card stock paper, then stamped them with French Script.

I also used my paper punch to make tags stamped with snowflakes and a little dab of glitter in the middle.

Added pink seam binding and ta da!

Then there are these lovelies, filled with white vintage tinsel and topped off with pink seam binding.

These items are for sale in my Etsy and some will also be going with me to Horton's for a shabby chic pink and white Christmas!

Decisions, Decisions

Yeah, I realize there are harder choices in life than what I am about to ask you. But I have a current dilemma...

I only bought so many of the clear plastic ornaments. I have about 8 left to finish and I just can't decide if I want to do more of the ones with the cute little trees...

or more with the book pages....

Some are going with me to Horton's and some are going on Etsy.

I just wonder which would sell better??

I adore them both and am so indecisive on this!

The Christmas Tree Nightmare

I finally ventured out to the garage, moved 50 or so boxes and pulled the massive box that the tree is in clear into the house.

Then I took it all out, discovered mice had been using chicken feathers to make nests inside of it.

I thought "No big deal, right? Just pull it all out and throw it away."

Which I did, and thought I was good to go, so I then spent the next hour wrestling with the tree to get it all put together....

The tree won the wrestling match. I'm covered in scratches.

So after I get it up I start to smell something.....something awful.....

MOUSE PEE!!!!

Great, this is my luck today.

Tree goes in the trash.

So it looks like for now my small tree is going to be our main tree this year.

I think I am ok with that, it is really pretty after all.

Creating Vintage "Ribbons"

You know me and vintage sheets....we're BFF's just like peanut butter and jelly!

{yeah that didn't make a lot of sense. I've been trying to catch up on things around here and on Facebook and blogworld and so my brain is melting a bit}

Anyways my point is, I adore vintage sheets for the oh so many uses!

Most recently I have been cutting them into strips, fraying the edges and hand stamping them with these fabulous stamps I got from Michaels $1 bins.

I looooooove them. It's a bit time consuming but oh so worth it!

I also made a few more Christmas ornaments.

These ones have vintage sheet music inside and if you look closely at the last one they also have little music notes.

{also another amazing thing from Michael's $1 bins...teeny tiny music note craft punches. Pinch me, I'm in heaven!}

Then there is this, I'm not sure if I've shared it already. My ruffled garland as tree trimming and a ruffled crinoline as a tree skirt.

White Christmas here I come, and I shall be there will bells on!

It's Begining to Look Like....

Christmas?

Well I hope so, but boy have I felt unmotivated lately! {It's the magazine I've been trying to create, getting me down. More on that later}

Finally got out some supplies to craft and put me in the holiday mood.

I love love love these. They are plastic, so houses with kids, cats, dogs {or chickens} can hang them and feel safe that they won't be shattered.

I filled them with curled vintage book pages and glitter and topped them off with white vintage seam binding.

They are for sale in sets of four in my Etsy.

Feeling pretty spirited now, so off to work on some more Christmas crafting!

So first thing is first, this month is my one year blogiversary! I can not believe I have been blogging for an entire year now. I have made so many wonderful friends along the way.

A magazine to be released next week!!

After going round and round trying to decide on the best option I have decided on a free online magazine featuring some of my favorite talented bloggers.

I had originally planned to release a for purchase mag, but my heart just wasn't in it. I don't want to make money off of it and I want it to be easily accessible to everyone, plus I am so new to this, I just couldn't see having you pay for something when I still can't be entirely sure if it will be a success or a flop.

Does that make sense?

I hope so.

is having their annual open house on November 12th.

Saturday December 3rd from 9-6

is their Artisan Christmas market which I will be participating in! Woohoo!

I can not even begin to say how huge a fan I am of the Horton's. They put on amazing shows and they are so sweet!

First Impressions

First impressions can sometimes be a little scary.....
It's hard to imagine how you can possibly transform an old house into something you love when you don't have the money to put into it.

But the power of paint, and free things that can be easily transformed....well it can do amazing things!

Sometimes the transformation is so great it is hard to believe it is even the same room!

Add in some pretty things to give it your personal touch and ta-da.

I rarely pass on something just because it doesn't look like what I want.

When I first saw this house two years ago, I knew with the right amount of elbow grease and love that it would be something I would never want to leave.

I still have a lot I want to get done, but each day this old house grows on me a little more.

Face Painting

I've been goofing around the last couple of days trying to figure out what to wear for my best friend's Halloween/Birthday party.

I want it to be in keeping with the black and white theme.

I've pinned several photos of Day of the Dead makeup and just seem drawn to it.

So here was my trial run to see if I could even pull it off.....

What do you think?

I think I like it, now I just have to decide on the outfit!

Small things always look better with a cute vintage paper background.

Never use the flash.

When in doubt, go lighter with the exposure setting.

The lighting in my living room sucks {and looks really REALLY yellow}

Do you have a favorite trash to treasure make over?

I have plenty that I love, but my favorite has to be my shabby chic cherub candle stand.

It started off with very humble beginnings, just a lamp someone was throwing out.

I took out all of the wiring.

Gave it just a thin coat of white so some of the age would show through.

Added some crystals from my crystal stash I am hoarding.

It went from humble to va va voom with a couple of simple upgrades!

The Tiny Chandelier

STILL working on my daughters bedroom make over. I haven't forgotten.....there have just been a bazillion things coming up in between.

Some of you may remember the little chandelier I picked up at a yard sale over the summer.

Here it is in it's new glory, I painted it and added a white chain cover made from a strip of sheet.

Here is it's previous form...

So yeah anyways with some luck some day I will have her room done. Something always sets me back on it. After hanging the chandelier I sat on her antique bed and the rails gave way....I'm pretty sure I got 3 broken toes out of the deal.

Chalk Paint

My friend and I were browsing trash in the village this morning and found a dresser set out curbside.

It really looked in bad shape.

I think though that those are sometimes the best because then you can try out new things and not worry so much if you mess it up.

I love the chalk paint look but can't afford it and I have seen several who have tried home made mixtures so I decided to give it a go.

I crushed up two sticks of chalk with a hammer and poured it into a $1 can of "Oops" paint. {really not sure how it ended up oops paint, since it appears to be a plain white but oook}

One coat and done! But that wasn't enough, I wanted more!

I bought some Martha Stewart tint-able antiquing glaze for $3 with a coupon and at first was just going to do a dark glaze...

Then I remembered all of the gorgeous turquoise I have seen on sooo many blogs and not been brave enough to try.

So I added a couple of drops of turquoise craft paint to the glaze and then distressed once all of the paint was dry.

I think I love it.

Not bad for a free dresser!

The Coop

The chickens finally have their new digs!

All of the junk around their coop is stuff I have for sale.

It seems kind of silly I am sure, but it just looks so pretty to have a little shop space around their coop.

We put the coop together inside our garage with supplies we had around. Old wood from a deck tear down, and the chicken wire was in the shed when we moved here.

I hung one of my cheap chandies and made a chalkboard sign out of some plywood and an antique wooden frame painted white.

My pretty ladies ready to have their photo taken!

I think this is going to be my "store".

Is it weird to have a chicken coop inside a store??

I'm not really finished yet...but then again, I don't think anything around here is ever really "finished".

I'm happy with it and the girls are happy with it!

My Halloween Decor

Say Hello to Fred. He has been with us two years now. We purchased him last October at Target, then put him in the truck with a wig and sunglasses and drove around town just for laughs.

This year he is wearing a vintage wedding dress at the dinner table.

My youngest has creeped some people out with him. She took him everywhere for awhile. Even drug him into the sandbox to play. It's funny to see a tiny 3 year old dragging around a skeleton and calling him by name, having tea parties and conversations.

I made the Halloween sign from an old piece of furniture that broke off. Painted and distressed!

The rosettes were made from card stock and a $1.00 stamp at Michaels.

This is George...all of our critters and creatures have names!

Here the rats are trying to sneak into the sugar bowl.

I'm having a lot of fun with the $1.00 Trick or Treat Stamp.

Both of my oldest kids have smaller birthday parties this year because we are gearing up for a giant Halloween party. Woohoo!!

You Don't Have to Spend a Lot.....

To get a lot. It's true, it really really is.

Our budget doesn't allow for vacations {we've never had one}, so we invite everyone over and cook out or go hiking in our own back yard.

Our idea of fine dining out is actually going IN to McDonalds and sitting down to eat our food there.

If you are on a miniscule budget you probably know this feeling...you just have to make the most of what you have.

It's budget break down time here, you may have seen it before. But I just want to show that it can be done with a teensy tiny almost non existent budget, because I am sure some of you might be like me and get frustrated every time you see an amazing room and hear that they did it on the small budget of $800.

*GASP* Not me, no way can I afford $800 on a room!

Living Room

Ok I did make a splurge here, my first annual spring yard sale made almost $1,000 so I spent $200 on the rug from Home Goods. It was a gift to myself! But I think I made up for it with these other prices...

The dress form in the corner came from a lot I purchased for $200. I kept two and sold the others for a total of $600. Soooo definitely made the money back there.

Marble top~$50 from Craigslist, but it came with an iron base I sold for $20 so I actually only paid $30 for the marble.

I sold the previous bed frame to make the money to re-do this room. It sold for $150 which gave me PLENTY to buy the new items to make it look like this.

Tips on decorating a room:

If there is something you love but can not afford, sell something you already have that you don't love.

Craigslist, Ebay, and The Goodwill Outlet are my best friends!

Don't be afraid to bargain. Even thrift stores are sometimes willing to go down on their price.

Sometimes Craigslisters are wanting to get rid of a piece so badly that they are happy to deliver. This is helpful if you don't have a vehicle large enough. Never be afraid to ask.

Paint is a cure all for almost any kind of ugly.
